NEW
TRENDS
IN
THROMBOLYTIC AGENTS
One of
the remarkable trends
in
public health
has been
the
increasing
recognition
of
the
incidence
of
thromboembolic disorders, which com-
prised a serious factor
threatening
hu-
man
life.
Thrombolytic
(fibrinolytic)
agents such as plasminogen activators
have the potential ol actually dissolving
fresh thromboemboli.
Thrombolytic
drugs should have
their
greatest utility
in patients with massive embolism
in
which surgical intervention
would
otherwise
be contemplated.
The potential
use of
these agents
in the
therapy
of
acute
myocardial
infarction and cerebral thrombosis
in
under
active investigation.
The tissue
plasminogen activators (tPA) including
"long-life type",
"tricky-type"
and
"monoclonal antibody-guided
type"
have been obtained in purilied forms or
manufactured by
gene-engeneering
technique and
utilized in experimental
human studies,
and
also
tried
in
patients.
The
thrombolytic mechanisms
of
the
agents
and potential
indications
has been explained
in
further details
in
the
paper.
