STRATIGIC MEASURES
FOR
PREVENTION
OF
LIVER CARCINOMA
Primary liver cancer
is
one of the
most common malignant tumors in
a
few geographic regions
in
the
world.
lt
comprise
20
to
30
percent
of
all
malignent conditions
in parts of
Africa
and
Asia.
The actual cause of hepatic
cancer
is
unknown,
but
three
observations are noteworhty: 1)
most
hepatomas and about 20 to 50 percent
of
cholangiomas
(they are the two
types
of the
malignency)
are found
in
association
with
postnecrotic cirrhosis
due
to type
B hepatitis
virus
infection;
2) certain known hepatic carcinogens
contaminated
in
foodstuff, such
as
aflatoxin,
are
frequently ingested
in
some
parts of the world with
high
incidence
of
liver
carcinoma;
3)
contamination
with
chemicals
such as
nitrite
and
pestcide etc.
in
drinking
water
are
commonly
observed
in
above
areas.
The major policies
for
liver
carcinoma prevention should include
any public
health procedures
directed
to enhance and improve
live
qualities
such
as
drinking clean water and eating
high
quality food, and receiving vaccine
immunization for hepatitis
in
high risk
populations.
