“Helpful to Others is Top Satisfaction”: an Interview with “Anti-cancer Star”: Teacher Zhang

Mdm Zhang had breast cancer with metastases and she suffered tremendously from both the cancer and the treatments. Encouraged
by her husband, in 1992, she established the “Kingdom of Joy” in the Children’s Park; also went to Beijing a few times to brush up her
qigong, conceptually a very systematic and disciplined form of regular exercise for cancer patients – especially useful when combined
with her energetic counseling. In 1994 she formed the “Anti-cancer Club”, delivering voluntary services to cancer patients and their
relatives. In 1997, she formed the “Sunshine Service Team” to cater for solving all cancer-related problems via voluntary telephone
lines; also formed the Provincial Anti-cancer Society with 5,000 members and boasting 20,000 candidates being counseled by her.
Also formed the “Sunshine Plaza” for hotline enquiries for cancer-related treatment difficulties; published the “Sunshine Newsletter”
for written exchange and even the “Sunshine Players” for stage shows. The most impressive is the “Sunshine Service Team” for urban
services. At 69 now, and, despite her 8 metastases, she has lived out her life most fully!
