IS WEAK ALKALI WATER GOOD FORYOUR HEALTH?
Vendors of weak alkali water argue 70% of us have excessive acidity, leading to diabetes, heart diseases and strokes, etc.; the
ir
weak alkali water can reverse this. They classify certain food items to be "acidic" - dead against the golden principle of a balanced
diet. Professors at the Harbin Medical Sciences University opine that weak alkali water is a gimmick as it is not different from
ordinary water. The "acidic" theory has false grounds, e.g., ashes from certain foods are acidic in water but this has nothing to do
with our body metabolism. Moreover, our body has a comprehensive buffering and conditioning system, keeping our blood pH
(acidity) at 7.35 to 7.45. Even as veggies and fruits are helpful for managing chronic diseases, it does not mean that taking such
items would prevent such diseases altogether. If alkalis are so important, all one needs is to take baking soda (sodium bicarbonate).
In fact, acidity is the result of diseases and not the cause. Weak alkali water are neutralized immediately once in contact with our
strongly acidic stomach juices. In any case, if 70% of us are "acidic", there should be many more people with chronic diseases!
