For
centuries,
scientists
have made
great efforis in searchig for
an
effective
anti-cancer
treatment.
Although
there
has been
some
progress in
the development of cancer research,
no
marked
medical
breakthrough
for
such
a
horrible dtsease
was
noted.
Generally speakrng,
tumor cells result from
the
abnormal
division
and
mitosis
of
normal
cells
under ceftain
conditions.
scientific evidence
has
shown that some abnormal substances
are
released from cancer
cells durtng
the
sudden
transmissible changes
in
the
mutation
of
the
normal
cells.
These
substances
may
be
involved
in
the masking and inhibiting of the function
of
hte body's
immune system.
in
addition, there
are
marked differnece
between
tumor cells
and
normal
tissues.
All of
these
problems
contribute
tumor cells
and normal
tissues.
All
of
these
problems contribute
to
the difficulties
in
the treatment
of
cancer. Fufthermore,
searching for
a new
method of
effective treatment will
become
very
impoftant and
imperative
for the
next
ten
years
or more.
Our
research
group
of
the
traditional
medicine
has
found
a
poftent
anti-cancer glyco-protein
from
the
PSP
(polysacharride
peptide from
cutivated Cariolus
Versicolor,
Shanghai). However, it
has little
or
no
effect
on
normal
tissues. This
purified
PSP
also
possesses
a
strong
stimulating
action
on
body's
immune
system.
Further inversttgation
on
the
mechanisms
of
action
of
this
peptide
will
be
carried
out.
