PREVENTION &
TREATMENT
OF
''AGE
sPoTs"
"Age spots"
or
senile
lentigos,
are
brown
or
dark
brownish
spots with
diameters
1
to
10
mm.
They are
mildly
raised
above the
skin,
flat, non-
painful, non-itchy and are com-
mon
in
the elderly, especially on
the skin
of the
face,
dorsum of
the
hand
and
forearms, etc.
- a
sign of tissue
aging.
Waste
products,
e.9.,
peroxidates,
metabolites
of
amino acids and
unsaturated fatty acids that are
being
oxidized
by
free
radicals
-
these would denature proteins
to form
polymers.
After
enzy-
matic action,
brownish granules
form on
the
skin accumulates
as
"age spots".
With
age, the
ability of eradicating free
radi-
cals
is
reduced
and
spots
gradually
appear. Take foods
containing
abundant
vitamin
C
and
E,
cysteine,
glutathione,
etc.
- as
they all
have anti-oxi-
dant properties, not only would
age
spots be
reduced but also
general
aging
is
retarded.
Eggplant,
ginger,
onions,
pollen, sesame
oil,
fresh fruits
and vegetables,
peanuts,
sesame
seed, lean pork,
animal
liver,
etc are recommended.
To
prevent
"age spots",
take
ad-
equate rest, regular exercises
but avoid sunlight.
Normally,
treatment
is
not required;
if
in
doubt, consult your doctor.
