ln China,
silicone
implants
to
augment breast size
and
shape
had
been
permitted.
However, adverse effects of
in-
jected silicone become
more
and
more
obvious with
the
years, e.9., tissue
infiltration,
impairment of
liver
function and
even
the
immunity. Saline
im-
plants are much preferred.
A
variant of silicone, Hydrophilic
Polyacrylamide Gel (PAAG) has
been
used
forthe
last
10
years.
ln China,
300,000
women
had
such
injections. However,
ad-
verse effects
are
also
significant, e.9., disfigurement,
tissue
breakdown, gelatinous
discharge, etc.
PAAG may mi-
grate to other parts
of
the body
and
is
very difficult to
take
out.
The worst is that
the
level
of
platinum salts inside the body
would gradually
rise
with
time.
Studies have shown that
the
level
of
platinum
salts
in
the
urine,
hair
and even
the
milk of
nursing mothers are
raised.
Such increases may cause
hy-
persensitivity reactions or even
toxic
reactions;
in
others, there
may
even
be
asthmatic attacks,
harmful etfects to
the
nervous
system and even weakening of
the
immune system.
From
April
this year,
PAAG
is banned
in
China.
