THE SECRET

Once, Chief
Criminal
lnvestigation lnspector Shen
had invited
forensic pathologist
Prof Chan
from
Guangzhou
to
investigate
a
death after
a
fight between
the peasants
and
the developer
at
the developing zone
over
a
dispute on estate compensation. Soon, the sus-
pect Lang Qing-yun was alleged
to
have committed
suicide;
he
also
scribbled
"Zhang
Huo-sheng stabbed
me
3
times;
I
wrote under
duress"

after the fighting and killing, Zhang did say
that
he
would
revenge.
However,
as the primary crime scene was
about
100 meters from
the
Lang's
body,
suicide was thought
unlikely
but
Prof
Chan
had this
crime
reconstruction.
When
Lang decided
to
commit
suicide,
he planned to
blame
it
onto
Zhang; Lang also wished
to
meet his wife for
the
last
time
by
the steel frame near the village.
However,
the wife mistook the time to be
12 noon
the
next day
whereas Lang meant
12
mid-night. After
Lang
had
cut
himself, he
deliberately
hid
the
knife
well
but
could
not
find
his wife. Desperate
to
meet his wife the
last
time, he made
a
very great effort to
go to
another similar steel frame across the
highway, in
case she
had
mistaken
to
be that one. Judging from
the
relatively minor
wounds,
Prof Chan postulated
that
bleeding was
slow
enough,
especially when
the
blood pressure
started to
drop. Lang managed to
tread the distance
but
only
to
drop dead
upon
further
bleeding.
To
confirm
Prof
Chan's postulations, the
knife
was finally found near
the "crime scene".
