CREATIVE MODE
FOR
TRADITIONAL
CHINESE MEDICINE:
THE
DEMAND
0FTHETIMES
Traditional
Chinese medicine (TCM) is
the
pearl
of
China's
5,000
years'culture.
However, former
regional "infectious diseases" have now spread worldwide, e.9., AIDS, bird flu, dengue
fever, etc.
With
this
rapidly
changing world,
TCM
must also
brush
up
to explore and to develop new, practicable
Chinese
medicine,
concoc-
tions and new
treatment
plus prevention strategies
-
the only way to control brand-new viruses and diseases. ln
1981 ,
the
first case
of
AIDS was
reported;
by
now,
there are 40
million
cases worldwide;
last
year,
13,000 new
cases occur
daily,
with 8,000
dead.
Asia
may
well be heavily
hit by AIDS.
The advantages
of
TCM
may
offer
a
unique way
of
effective
symptom
relief or even cure, e.9., by systematic enhancement
of
body immunity
-
potentially the greatest contribution to mankind. As new pathogens or mutations
occur,
TCM
must also change
its
perspectives, methods and problem solving strategies,
e.9.,
a low pathogenic corona virus turned a highly
sinister
one.
A combination
of
TCM
and
Western treatments was effective for acute and convalescence phases. New
diseases also help to put
fonruard
the concept
of
"sub-optimal health". Obviously, "Prevention
is
betterthan
cure";
in
the modern world and
rapidly
aging population,
health foods
contribute
significantly to
common degenerative
changes
of
our modern
society. lt
is now
high
time
for
our
private
sector
research
to catch
up
with
highly active
exploration
and
research
on Chinese
medicine overseas.
We must
not
work
in
a
vacuum!
