Lin,
threatened abortion
can
usually
be
salvaged but habitual
ones
(3
or
more
episodes)
are less
salvageable.
Causes of abortion are: qi and
blood
deficiency, flush and conception vessel
impairment,
lack
of control
in
absorp-
tion,
heat predominance
that
impairs
the
llush
and conception
vessels;
excessive sex, inappropriate
medica-
tion
and
external
trauma, etc.

can
damage
the flush and
conception
vessels.
The
predominant symptoms
define subtypes, e.9., loin
pain
due
to
kidney
deficiency; tummy ache due
to
cold accumulation, qi stasis
and
blood
deficiency; diarrhoea due
to
internal
insull
resulting in splenic deficiency

irregularity
or
external
infection result-
ing
in
dampness and heat; excessive
heat resulting
in
irritability,
preference
for
cold drinks, dry stool, deep coloured
urine, dryness of
lips,
etc.;constipation
due
to
heat and
lack
of
body fluids;
insomnia due
to
mental and
liver
disturbance; dizziness due
to
liver and
kidney deficiency. Above
all,
certain
medications
should
be
avoided
altogether, e.9.,
strong
purgatives and
those
that
can cause jaundice
