MISUSE OF
VITAMINS
Vitamins are essential to maintain
optimal health, help
to
prevent many
diseases and are possibly candidates
with
the potential
of
slowing
the
process
of
ageing. At
present, small quantities
of vitamins are recommended; taking
too
much
vitamins would definitely have
side
effects.
Although water soluable
vitamins like
B
and
C
are passed out
in
the urine, excessive amounts
can still
harm the body during their transit
in
the
body.
Excessive
C
can
cause
diarrhoea, bleeding gums
and
deficiency
in
vitamin
B-12.
Fat
soluable
vitamins
like
A,
D,
E
and
K must never
be taken in excessive doses otherwise
irrevisible toxicity will
result.
Vitamin
E
will
never promote sexual power and
signs
of
toxicity
are
headache,
dizziness, nausea, abdominal cramps,
diarrhoea, sore
mouth
and
even
depression
etc.
There
is
also
no
evidence
that vitamin A and
beta-
carotene
can
prevent lung cancer
in
smokers.
Excessive
vitamin
D
causes
calcification
of
the
kidneys, arteries,
bronchi or even the cornea of
the
eye.
On
the other hand, vegetarians
not
taking
milk products
or eggs
may well
have vitamin
deficiency.
Hence,
optimal
use of vitamins is essential.
