betes

1981

Amongst diabetics, 50% had
amputa-
tion
of
the feet after unsuccessful treat-
ment
for necrotic diabetic
foot.

tional Chinese

Western
medicine

vascular diseases, Profes-
sor Xi, 87% ot
these
had non-obstruc-
tive muscle degenerative necrosis and
the
amputation rate was also
high.

from necrosis

For diabetics, especially
elderly ones, note signs of numbness
ol the limb; unexplained cold or heat
of
the toes or pain or swelling; treat any
injury to the skin of the
foot.

The
best
foot care
is
daily washing, dry-
ing,
not
to
use hot-water bottle, avoid
extreme heat or cold or physical injury.
Treat all infections
of
the
foot.
Shoes
and
socks
must be airy
and
not too tight.
Relaxing, slow
or
light exercises
like
casual walking, qi-gong, tai-chi etc are
recommended.
