TREATMENT OF
UTERINE
MYOMAS
WITH
TRADITIONAL
CHINESE
HERBS
Uterine
myomas
are
benign
neoplasmas composed
of
smooth mus-
cle
bundles in a supporting
framework
of connective
tissue.
ln
most cases,
theyare
asymptomatic.
A mass
of
them
may induce heavy bleeding and dis-
comfort,
raising
enough concern
to
con-
sider surgical
removal.
Hormonal or
radium and roentgen therapy
are
sometiems used
to
stop and
inhibit
uterine bleeding
or further
tumor
groMh.
Traditional Chinese
Medicine
uses herbal preparations to treat the
same
disease.
The
theory
behind the
use
is
based on
the hemastatic effect
of herbs on excessive uterine bleeding.
Their oral intake or external application
will delay
or
decrease the growth
of
the
size
of the
tumors.
This article includes
prescriptions which were passed down
by
the
reknown TCM
gynecologist,
Dr.
Chen Xia-Bao who was one of
the
late
Emperoris attending
physicians.
A dis-
cussion on the clinical study
ol
154
cases of uterine
myomas
treated
with
the above prescription
is
also recorded.
