Coffee & Health
Although well-known to contain caffeine, a mental stimulant, coffee has quite different degrees of tolerability in different individuals.
Other than a stimulant, it is also associated with a higher SHBG (sex hormone-binding globulin) blood level and in turn, may be
beneficial for lowering the risk of diabetes. According to the “Neurology” medical journal of 2012, taking 200 mg of caffeine (2-4
cups of coffee) may also help to improve motor functions of Parkinson’s disease. Recent research also indicated that coffee contains
ingredients that help to prevent alcoholic cirrhosis (hardening) of the liver. According to the “Circulation Heart Failure” medical journal
of 2012, 2 cups of coffee a day would reduce the risk of heart failure (but 5 cups/day have the opposite effect). As caffeine may interact
with many drugs, those people taking long-term medications should try their best to avoid taking coffee. In general, other than pregnant
women and children, most healthy adults may drink a moderate amount of coffee for their tiredness in the afternoon – for the good of
their health.
