Acupuncture: an Interview with Prof Wei LiFu, Chief, Acupuncture Division, 17th Nanning

Prof Wei LiFu used to be a life-long Disciple and “Intern” of his Mentor: the great Zhu Lian Acupuncturist Master. Thus, Prof Wei had
in-depth and detail notion of using higher central nervous system activities as the basis; using modern scientific clinical equipment
to document the impact of acupuncture: both provide the rationale of acupuncture application. Prof Wei hailed his Mentor for teaching
relentlessly, despite very tight schedules; also treated political VIPs in China when special trip were made to see his Mentor who was
also far from being greedy, as he often gave free treatments as appropriate. As the Master had a firm conviction for integrating Western
medicine with TCM, modern medical equipment for clinical documentation of acupuncture results were used, e.g., using ultrasound for
acute non-icteric (no jaundice) hepatitis to document treatment results; using declining white blood cells for improvement. When the
Master died in 1978, Prof Wei continued on in Nanning University of TCM, and undertook research on the practice of herbs combined
with acupuncture.
