Is Beer Drinking Harmful to Health?
As an affordable drink, beer is getting more and more popular. Beer is made from malt, hops and yeast for fermentation in a stainless
steel tank for a few weeks - without artificial additives, flavourings or preservatives. Apart from dispelling thirst, beer is a mild diuretic and may
stimulate gastric secretions and circulations. According to a Californian study, moderate beer drinking was associated with the least cardiovascular
and peptic diseases. Draught beers are unpasteurized, with the yeast still working, even after drinking - stimulates appetite and may lead to
obesity. Blond lager-type beer is best for diabetics as they cannot tolerate excessive malt. "Light" beer is for drivers, executives, performing
artists, etc.; "alcohol-free" beers (with alcohol content even lower than "light") are for women, children and the elderly and infirm. There is even
a light new herbal brand claimed to be designed for athletes. Best served chilled, beer should not be frozen - destroys taste and nutrition.
Excessive beer affects the heart and gout, causes pot belly and gastritis, and even cancers, let alone possibility of lead poisoning, with really
large quantities. Prevention is the key!
