INTEGRATED THERAPY
FOR
CANCER
IS BEST
FOR
TRADITIONAL
CHINESE
MEDICINE
Traditional Chinese
medi-
cine
(TCM)
concepts
on
tumor
management ditfer from that of
Western medicine.
lt
was
thought
that TCM enhances operative
success rates, reduce toxicity
and
increase efficacy of
chemo-
radiotherapy, optimize
internal
body environments, enhance im-
munity
and
prevent
cancer
from
local
and distant
relapses. TCM
has concepts
of
"long survivals
with the tumor co-existing"
and
"zero toxicity chemotherapy" un-
heard
of
in
the
West. TCM
can
also treat cancers that are
still
sub-clinical, akin
to
the
"chemoprevention" concept
of
the
West.
The
author
also
claimed that TCM treatment
is
successful for hopeless cancers,
e.9., pancreas, bile duct,
liver,
brain, sarcoma
as
well
as
those
with
relapse
or
metastasis.
However, myths
like
"poison
combat poison",
indiscriminate
use of
ginseng
may promote
tu-
mor
groMh;
inappropriate circu-
lation promotion and blood sta-
sis
removal may
lead
to tumor
spread or massive bleeding. The
tissue
organization
field
theory
was
held: carcinogenesis
and
neoplasia are defects of tissue
architecture. Carcinogens would
act initially by disrupting
the
nor-
mal interactions that take place
among
the
"morphogenetic
fields"
of developing organisms.
