THE STRANGE
EXPERIENCES OF A
DOCTOR
30 years ago, a child came
to
my
smalltown
hospital- acci-
dentally swallowed
a
small 6-cm
folded knife. Partially unfolded,
it
was
lodged at the stomach. As
the child was
well,
I
decided to
observe
and
used
a
folklore-half
a
bowl of stirred
fried
uncut Chi-
nese chives swallowed without
chewing.
After
48
hours,
the knife
passed out, wrapped
by
the Chi-
nese chives! ln a remote village,
I
had
to
extract
a
retained pla-
centa after
a baby
was delivered.
Being no obstetrician, I literally
followed
the
suggestions from
a
medical periodical -after cutting
the cord, I bound her abdomen
with a cloth
rather
tightly
and
asked her
to
push
very
hard
whilst
I
pressed
firmly on
her
lower abdomen.
lt
worked!
I
also
witnessed
a
case of
a
fetus
cry-
ing
in
the womb-without any suf-
focation
as
the amniotic fluid had
already
run dry
due to an
unno-
ticed premature perforation
of
the
amnion. Normal delivery ensued.
