THE THREAT
OF
CHRONIC
FATIGUE
SYNDROME TO MEN
City workers are always
"Too
tired"
or
"too busy".
ln
them,
60-70%
have
chronic fatigue
syndrome. A
recent survey
done
in Shanghai, Wuxi and Shenzhen
Cities
revealed that among
2,000
middle age people,
60% had insomnia, excessive dreams, sleepiness;
62/"
have
backache, 58% have
easy
fatigabilily, 48/"
have poor temper
or
undue worries. Younger people are not exempt, especially
those
in
scientific
research.
ln Japan, working hard to death is, unfortunately, rather common but this is now paralleled
in
China
and
USA.
Overwork
results in
hypertension, atherosclerosis
of
the
blood
vessels,
internal
organ
dysfunction. A
number
of
Japanese workers are workaholics
-
even though
the
life
expectancy
of
the Japanese
is 75
years,
most
of
these workaholics may die suddenly
at
50-60, even though their living conditions
are
first class (work
apart). Signs of overwork are
backache,
insomnia,
weakness,
premature gray hairs,
etc.
Men are
definitely
more susceptible to poor health due to chronic fatigue because of society's high expectations; the traditional
burden
is
also on
men -
all men really
have
to
strive
to
be as
successful
as
they
can,
with
all
the resultant
adverse effects. Poor sleep
quality
is
the commonest warning sign
of
fatigue;
the
price
to
pay is poor immu-
nity
against infections
and
diseases. Poor recent memory
is
another sign, so are unusually
poor tempers;
even
the appetite
is
affected. lt
is
time to
take a
rest
from work!
