AN
EXPRESSWAY BUILT
FOR
THE
DEVELOPMENT
OF
TRADITIONAL
CHINESE
MEDICINE
Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM)
is
the most precious gem of China and
even
the world. Western
medicine
and
TCM should also complement
each
other.
Zhang
ZhongJing's monumental "Theory of
Cold
Damage"
contributed substantially
to
TCM
even to
this
day.
The
milestone
febrile
illness
teaching
(Ming
/
Qing
Dynasty) was mainly the work
of
Wu
JuTong.
The encyclopedic work
on
TCM - "The Great pharmaco-
poeia"
of Ming
Dynasty
was written by
Li ShiZhen.
Although TCM
academic
work is
now
complete with
all
equivalents
of
Western medical universities, yet, there
is
a
under
current
for
the curriculum
of
academic work
to
be gradually shifted towards Western medicine. TCM academic work should always
be
linked
to
the
clinical perspective. Nevertheless, basic science research as a basis
of
TCM must not be neglected. Recog-
nize
that
not
just
microscopic
documentation
is scientific.
As macroscopic work
is as
scientific,
it is best
to
combine the two together. The main lines
of
thought should
be
science-based philosophical development
on
TCM.
As the 21st Century is a great opportunity for TCM, prompt development is crucial. lf
the
people's
Government
could also
build
an
expressway for TCM,
the whole
process
would speed up.
Remember,
the
development
of
TCM is
not
just the
duty of
the TCM professionals. lt
is also
the
responsibility of
the whole
Chinese
race!
