As heart
diseases,
especiallY
coronaries, are the leading causes
of
death, research and
develoPment
(R&D) on
poteniially
useful
preparations
is
vital.
Even
in
the
early 90's,
R&D
were
initiated
by
this Association and
Aca-
demician Chen
Ke-ji
-
clinical applica-
tion
in
hospitals
in
Shanghai
and
Suzhou,
etc.
found
moderating effects
on
coronaries and angina
patients.
Sub-
sequent research
in
laboratory animals
found beneficial inhibition on platelet
aggregation; prevention of
blood
clots
in blood diversion collaterals; perfor-
mance of the capsule also exceeded
that
of concoctions.
The main
ingredi-
ent of
the
H303 capsule is
from
Red
Sage Root and chuanxiong; the former
promotes blood flow; decrease
blood
stasis and pathogenic heat; apart from
similar properties,
the
latter is also
a
pain killer and able to promote the flow
of "qi". By 1994, with collaboration with
the Beijing Toxicology & Pharmacology
Research
lnstitute,
pre-clinical toxicol-
ogy studies on
H303
capsules
were
completed.
By
early
1995,
the Associa-
tion worked on pre-clinical
application
with
the Pharmacological
Office of the
Beiiing Nuclear Medicine
Research
lnstitute. After an arduous journey
o{
over
10
years, the regulatory require-
ments of H303
for
clinical use
had
thus
been
obtained
at
a long
last.
The
Edi-
tor is
very
pleased
to
have the chance
of
interviewing these research workers,
Prof
Ding Lin Mao
and
Dr Han Ling.
