REMEMBERTHE
"ABCDE''
BASIC RULES
FOR
CORONARIES
Coronaries
are
getting
more
common and threaten our health
and
life.
To reduce
the total
incidence of
coronaries
and
the chances
of
unstable
angina, acute
cardiac
muscle death
or
infarct,
serious
and fatal
cardiac arrhyth-
mia
or irregular beats, e.9.,
sinus
tachy-
cardia or too rapid beats, there
is
this
"ABCDE'
:
A:
Aspirin (enteric coated)
is
an
anti-plalelet
agent reducing coro-
nary clots;
angiotensin-converting-en-
zyme
(ACE)
inhibitors
reduce blood
pressure,
improve
cardiac output
and
protects the
heart;
anti-angina
agents
(usually taken under
the
tongue)
relieve
angina rapidly, retard the progress of
the
angina.
B:
Beta-blockers
lower
blood pressure, control angina, reduce
cardiac
arrhythmia
and
prevent
coronaries; blood pressure reduction
lowers risk of coronaries. C: Cessation
of smoking and cholesterol control
by
food restriction
or,
if
required,
by
medication,
greatly
reduces acute
coronaries.
D:
Diet
-
restriction
of
high
cholesterol
food; avoiding over-eating;
diabetes (uncontrolled)
is
an important
risk
factor
of
coronaries.
E: Education
-
with
angina or
coronaries,
no
time
is
lost
in
sending the patient to
hospital;
for known cases, anti-angina
medica-
tion
must be at hand; exercising physi-
cally
must be done according
to
the
advice of your
doctor,
e.9.,
leisurely
running, strolling, taijiquan, etc.,
help
to
improve
the
physique.
Going
by the
ABCDE, we would control coronaries
far
better.
