MAKEYOUR
DIET
APPROPRIATE AND
REGULATED
Your diet
should
be
well balanced;
the quantity
and the
timing,
regulated.
Too
little intake results
in malnutrition;
too
much results in
obesity
and
a
host
of related diseases. Most Chinese take
3
meals
a
day.
Warm
food is
usually
served, at least a bowl of warm
soup
before meals and
a
cup
ol
warm tea
afterwards benefit digestion. Despite
Western preference
for last
foods,
Chinese
often take food
leisurely.
Chewing adequately
is a
great help for
the
stomach.
After
a
full
meal, walking
gently helps digestion. Despite
the
popularity of salads, cold dishes
and
cold noodles,
etc.,
traditional
Chinese
food is well cooked
oV
the
stomach
actually
prefers
warm
intakes. For the
elderly,
this point
is
particularly
impor-
tant
otherwise stomach discomfort
upsets
the
appetite. ln fact, some food
items are poorly absorbed
if
uncooked,
e.9., protein is much more diflicult to
digest
if
taken
raw.
Boiling
drinking
water
is
also recommended, albeit for
a
different
reason.
Although
most
Chinese dietary customs are
healthy,
according to modern oncology studies,
the gulping
of
very
hot
tea,
e.9.,
Teochow
style tea, down the throat would
actu-
ally scald the inner lining of the
swal-
lowing
tube
so
that, after
many years,
cancers may develop there.
lt
is
also
good practice
to
brush your
teeth
after
meals, whenever feasible.
