LEADING MANKIND
INTO THE
NEW
CENTURY
OF
BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE AND
TECHNOLOGY
Every
human
cell stores the
he-
reditary information about human
life.
lnformation on growth, development,
intelligence, diseases, etc. is
deter-
mined
by
100,000 genes and
the
ar-
rangements of 3000 million nucleotides
(small pieces
of
DNA).
Scientists
in
America, England, France,
Germany,
Japan, China, etc. have almost
com-
pleted
this megaplan
of
delermining the
sequence and arrangements of DNA
in
the
genes.
97o/o
ol the secret
DNA
codes
and 85%
of
the
DNA
sequence
arrangements have already
been
deciphered.
ln
June, 2000,
President Clinton
and
Prime
Minister Blair,
along with
scientists from
many
countries declared
that
the "Human Genomics Projecf'
had
made
significant
scientific
breakthroughs. President Clinton
de-
scribed the
"Genetic
MAP" as being
one
of
the
most miraculous
advancements
ever made
by
man.
He
added that
we
are
now
studying the
language with
which God
used
to
create
man and
compared
this
project to
the discovery
of
heavenly bodies
in the
universe
made by Galileo. Prime Minister Blair
went
on
to
say
a medical revolution
is
at hand.
He
foretold of the tremendous
contribution that will
be
brought about
by
this research
in
treating many differ-
ent diseases.
Chairman
Jiang Zhemin
highly
praised this
technology's contribution
to
medicine
and
at the same
time
con-
gratulated the Chinese scientists
who
participated
in
this research. The whole
project was declared successful
by
the
world
leaders.
Scientists estimate
that
the se-
quencing
of
the
DNA
arrangements can
be completed before 2003.
The
DNA
structure and grouping determines
mankind's birth, old age, diseases, and
death. lf
the various functions of the
DNA grouping
can be
accurately
mapped, there
will
be
tremendous
ad-
vances
in
treating
hereditary diseases,
cancer, and
heart
diseases.
lt may
even
be
the
key
to further develop
intelli-
gence
and
prolong life.
