During his
past twenty
years
of
expeditions
in
the
mountains
of
Hong Kong
to
collect
Chinese herbs,
the
author
has seen
many different
species
of
Ling-chih.
On 9 November
I
988. the author discovered one
very
typical Ling-chih
at Nam
Fung
Road
on Hong
Kong
Island.
That
Ling-chih
was
living
on
a
decaying
tree
trunk.
It
had
a
brownish-yellow,
glossy and
semi-circular crown.
The
stalk
was
15cm long,
cylindrical in
shape
and had
a
diameter
of
2.5cm.
The
two
most common
species
that
can be
obtained
in
the market and
applied for
medicinal
use are
the Red
Ling-
chih
and
Purple
Ling-chih.
