Cancer
of
the
stomach
is
common
in
China and
its
management
is
still un-
satisfactory-apart from surgery
for
early
disease, various modalites
of
treatment
for
late disease are
still ineffective.
ln
China,
a
lot
of research concerns the
relationship between splenic
def
iciency
and cancer: stomach cancer
patients'
splenic deficiency,
which
manifests as
malabsorption, would respond
to
herbal
treatment
for
splenic
deficiency.
Splenic deficiency patients also
have
signilicantly
lower blood gastrin levels.
It
seems that spleno-gastric
deliciency
patients may be more prone to various
cancercausing agents.
These patients
often have decreased cellular immunity
and
blood level of trace elements, e.g.
Zinc.
Supplementary
Zinc
intake may
decrease
the
risk
of
having stomach
cancer.
The addition
of
traditional Chi-
nese herbal medicine designed for
splenic deficiency has also been found
to improve the survival of stomach can-
cer patients receiving Western treat-
ment.
Hence,
the relationship
ol
splenic
deficiency with stomach cancer
is
fur-
ther
established.
