DON'I FEAR CANCER
People always
turn
pale at the
mention
of cancer. A
new
medical
term, cancerophobia
has
been used by
the
modern medical psychologist, and
there are
probably
three types
of
cancerophobia which are
most fre-
quently encountered, i.e.,
reluctant
to
face the disease, a cancer
that
he
is
sutfering, disappointed to the future
of
the disease,
and
refuse
to
receive ac-
tive
treatment for
his
cancer.
However,
he
doesn't
know that cancer itself isn't
always an incurable
disease.
lt
is
esti-
mated
that
more
than
one third
of
pa-
tients with
cancer
can be
recovered
from their malignancies.
The
treatment
is
still
improving, and
in
fact,
many
cases with early stage cancer showed
excellent response to the treatment,
or
even cured after active therapy was
otfered.
Patients are not always at
a
passive position when he
is
sutfering
from a
cancer.
lt seems that certain
patients may maintain a relative stable
state for quite
a
long
time
after
the
di-
agnosis
of
a cancer is
established.
What's more, peculiar patient who
is
not given special treatment
may
stay
in a steady condition or the tumor
is
found
smaller.
Consequently, it is not
necessary
to
fear
cancer.
But,
seek-
ing medical help as soon as the
tumor
is
detected is important.
