Although in China, 266 million people are hypertensives, <40% are under treatment, and <10% have blood pressure (BP) controlled
effectively: dreadful as stroke and coronaries may ensue with uncontrolled hypertension. As most hypertensives have no symptoms,
taking anti-hypertensives for symptom control is deplorable: one should always persist in taking anti-hypertensives unless having very
strict healthy measures. Note: (1) BP reduction takes time, e.g., achieving in 4-12 weeks a BP of 140/90; for diabetics and in kidney
diseases, 130/80; in cerebral vascular diseases, <130/80: avoid too low BP (2) Intravenous fluids have little place in hypertension (3)
Anti-hypertensives should continue despite achieving ideal BP; follow up is mandatory for complications (4) Health food and health
devices, e.g., health pillows, watches, necklaces, hats, etc., for hypertension are gimmicks (5) As hypertensives take 2-3 weeks to work,
frequent drug changes are futile (6) As monitoring the effects of medications depends on good drug compliance, haphazard drug taking
is counterproductive. Above all, take a balanced diet, watch your weight, abstain from smoking, limited your drinking, take physical
exercises, spiritual and psychological therapy, etc.
