Dietary Pitfalls of City Dwellers
Omission of staple diet for slimming purposes is against the axiomatic “well-balanced diet” nutritional recommendation, especially as
fruits are not staple diets. A long-term study on 7,000 subjects by the University of Erlangen in Germany, omission of breakfast may
shorten survival by 2.5 years. Over-sumptuous dinners are unhealthy, especially if too rich in proteins and taken late in the evenings.
Eating too rapidly not only affects adequate chewing and digestion but also encourages overeating and obesity. Try to avoid eating raw,
as microorganisms may well be present: unhealthy especially for the elderly and children, as they have suboptimal immunity. Excessive
drinking (>50 ml) is bad for the liver and heart. Inadequate water intake is bad for health: usually, ~2,000 ml/day is required. As coffee
contains caffeine (60-65 mg/cup), drink in moderation, otherwise, the health of the cardiovascular system is affected. As tea leaves
should be steeped in boiling water for just a few minutes, steeping tea in keep-warm cups releases tanning acid in the leaves. Above
all, never smoke, not even after a meal!
