The Wisdom of Drinking Water
We need to drink 1.8-2 L water a day, else, dehydration may lead to tiredness, dry skin, constipation and increased risk of urinary
stone formation. For the elderly, water in the morning thins blood: drink on an empty stomach; avoid distilled water; chilled water is
also not good for those with stomach ailments. For a flu, drink more water to loosen the phlegm and replenish the loss from excessive
sweating. Water is also useful for managing constipation. For obesity, water helps to give satiety. Mildly salted water is appropriate for
vomiting. When working hard, drink even without thirst in order to detoxify: wash out accumulated adrenalin for clarity of mind. For
the elderly, moderate drinking thins the blood; after a bath, drink slowly as blood vessels are dilated then, else, heart is overburdened;
after exercise, wait till heart rate stabilizes before drinking. In summer, drink appropriately but avoid gulping, especially icy cold
or carbonated; water before a meal affects appetite; try lightly salted drinks. In general, avoid drinking long-standing water without
refrigeration, nor repeatedly boiled water: the quality changes with time; as distilled water lacks natural minerals, tap water with the
occasional mineral water is best.
