PREVENTION IS BETTER
THAN
CURE
Prevention
of
disease
avoids
unnecessary
sick
leaves,
high
expenses, suffering of
oneself
and the
family, failure
to cure,
the
"scarring", acute diseases turn-
ing
chronic,
and
even permanent
disability, possible psychological
trauma,
etc.
Usually, infections
are better understood and thus
more
readily
preventable.
However,
other
diseases,
e.9.,
cancers, diabetes, cardio-vascu-
lar diseases, senile
dementia,
etc.
pose
the greatest
threats.
Nevertheless, the World
Health
Organization's Victoria
Declara-
tion cited
"four cornerstones"
for
effective health maintenance: ap-
propriate
diet
(relevant
for
diabetes, heart &
blood vessel
diseases, cancers,
etc.)
exercises, abstain from
ciga-
rettes (relevant
for
respiratory
diseases including
lung
cancer)
& drinking
(relevant
for
liver
diseases)
and
emotional balance
- these
would
help
to
minimize
these mechanisms of
diseases:
(1) immuno
deficiency
(2) meta-
bolic
imbalance,
e.9.,
blood
sugar, cholesterol, electrolyte
imbalance and blood pressure,
etc.
(3)
excessive or
inappropri-
ate
body reactions,
e.9.,
high
fever, excessive inflammation of
tissues and organs, etc.
(4)
gene
disruptions.
Be
determined
and
consistent!
