the

Production
Plant.
As
part
of
the Nation's
1st
S-year plan,
it
was sited upstream
to
Harbin.
This
is
just the
tiP
of
the iceberg.
Most
heavy
metals,
e.9., organic
mercury,
would
re-
tain
in
fishes
and are consumed
during our
meals.
As
in
2003, the
mercury content
of
the
Songhua
River
water was
already
too
high,
the
ratings of the water
were
mainly
for
irrigation. Nationwide,
70"/. of natural
watenruays
are se-
verely contaminated; 910 million
people (70%) drink substandard
water;

of drinking water con-
tains
excessive iron, cadmium;

water
with
excessive organic particles; with
sea water influx,
