Prospects
Throughout
the
thousands
of
years
of
Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM),
the
relationship between TCM
and
Chinese medicinal drugs
is
very close.
Recently, the
Chinese Government has
proposed strategies
of
"adoption,
exploration
and development" using
modern technologies to undertake part
of the verification process, to establish
basic and advanced TCM schools and
colleges
to
churn
outTCM
professionals
and specialists well versed with
both
TCM
and
Western medicine so as to
make
TCM into a novel medical
main
stream.
ln
Hong Kong, despite
the
limited
resources,
TCM
is being
en-
hanced
considerably and popularized
to
the people. Moreover,
TCM physicians
in Hong Kong
have
also undergone no-
ticeable changes, especially
on
the
in-
tegration of
TCM
with
Western
medicine, e.9., the clinical diagnosis is
not only syndrome-based but also
disease-based. These TCM physicians
are also well versed with
modern
clinical
pharmacology, diagnostic and
therapy procedures
so
that the safety
and effectiveness of patient manage-
ment is greatly
enhanced.
After
the
Hand Over, numerous teaching and
refresher courses help
to
upgrade
the
professional knowledge and
to
train
new blood.TCM
is
now recognized and
a Council
parallel
to the
Hong Kong
Medical
Council
is
formed.
With the
establishment
of
more
advanced
academic institutions,
the
luture seems
brighter.
