BEWARE OFTHE
,,BACKFIRING''
OF
CEREBRALTHROMBOSIS
Cerebral thrombosis
is
the
blockage of brain blood vessels
- it
has
a
relapse rate
of
25% especially
during the
first year
but even
after
5
years, cases
of
relapse are not
rare.
Unfortunately, with each relapse, death
and complication
rates increase.
After
treatment
of
the
first
episode,
symptoms are
relieved but the
basic
pa-
thology like high blood pressure and
cholesterol, atherosclerosis (hardening)
of the arteries and high viscosity
of
the
blood remain
unchanged.
Common symptoms of thrombosis are
blindness, paralysis and
sensory
disturbance of one side of
the
body,
or
even inability to express, read or write.
Continual treatment
of
the underlying
disease, e.9., high blood pressure,
is
a
must. Avoid excessive tiredness,
tension, overeating,
heavy
drinking or
smoking. When symptoms
recur,
consult
the
doctor immediately.Take the
chance
to exercise, e.g.
washing, comb-
ing, brushing teeth and
dressing.
The
family should also adopt a caring
and
warm attitude
to speed up
recovery.
Take a
healthy diet and, above all, lead
a
regular
life.
