Scientists
have recently
developed monoclonal
antibodies
that
are
targeted specifically
at
tumour
antigens.
Monoclonal
antitumour antibodies are
now
being
used experimentallY
to treat
cancer
-
either
in
their native form or
as
immunotoxins, linked
to
natural toxins, anticancer
drugs
or
radioactive
substances. Such
monoclonal
antibodies,
as
developed
through Hydridoma
tech-
nology,
have
opened remarkable
new
approaches
to
preventing,
diagnosing and treating
disease.
